Dream The World Awake

I named this project from the belief of indigenous people that until we awaken to the beauty that is within us and all around, we are walking as if we are sleeping. Donnie Clark and I painted a mural on the back wall of the soup kitchen based on the miracle of the loaves and fishes. The people are sitting in a field of wheat, sharing loaves of bread and fish with each other, as if they are all one family.  A river filled with many fish is flowing around the scene. The people are of all colors and nations. They represent the people of the earth and they represent the people of the soup kitchen.

The peoples' faces are portraits of the actual guests of the soup kitchen which we painted using 8x10 photos that we took of them. Through this mural we are awakened to the beauty that is hidden within the people, and the people will awaken to the beauty that is within themselves.

This project is an opportunity for the people of the soup kitchen to have sacred space within their center. It is an opportunity for us to participate in the awakening of a beautiful people, who for so long have been walking among us, unseen.

The miracle of the loaves and fishes is the possibility of honoring and welcoming all people to the banquet of the earth.
